Carlos Ghosn: 'Arrest warrant issued' for wife of fugitive ex-Nissan boss
Japanese prosecutors have put out an arrest warrant for the wife of fugitive former Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn.
Carole Ghosn is currently in Lebanon, where her husband Carlos Ghosn fled to via Istanbul while awaiting trial on financial misconduct charges in Tokyo.
According to Japanese media, Mrs Ghosn is wanted over alleged perjury related to that case rather than anything to do with her husband's escape.
Prosecutors accuse her of falsely claiming not to know, or to have met, people connected to a company named in the criminal proceedings.
She had also been banned from meeting him while he was out on bail because she was seen as someone who might help him escape.
Japanese officials say anyone caught helping a fugitive escape will face legal consequences, although there is no extradition treaty in place between the country and Lebanon.
The warrant comes days after Mr Ghosn insisted that his family had no involvement in his escape, which was said to have begun with him taking a bullet train from Tokyo to Osaka.
